Napa, California

Kayleigh Slusher’s little body was discovered Feb. 1 during a police “welfare check” at a second-story apartment at Royal Garden Apartments in the 2000 block of Wilkins Avenue, where she lived with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend, according to police.

Napa Police allege in a court filing that Sara Krueger and her boyfriend, Ryan Scott Warner, placed the body in a suitcase and in a freezer for three days after she was killed, possibly on Jan. 30.

Krueger and Warner were arrested Feb. 2 at the BART station at El Cerrito del Norte. On Tuesday, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office charged Krueger and Warner with murder and assault on a child causing death. They face 25 years to life for each count if convicted.

Neither Warner, 26, nor Krueger, 23, entered a plea at their first court appearance on Tuesday. Napa County Superior Court Judge Michael S. Williams set the next hearing for Feb. 25.

The Napa County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday released Kayleigh’s body to her father’s family. Her father, Jason Slusher, is serving time in San Quentin State Prison.
