Mom Charged in 1-Year-Old’s Death

Mecklenburg County DSS recently confirmed that there was a  history of abuse in the home of Marcus Davis Jr. who police say was fatally injured and killed by his mother, Shannon Merriman (22).

Shannon was arrested 7/13 at Carolina’s medical center, where her son was hospitalized after an injury where 911 was called. She was first charged with felony child abuse.However, her son Marcus Davis Jr. died the next day-and police then got a murder warrant on her.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say the baby was injured at home on High Meadow Drive and was in Shannon’s care on 7/10. A neighbor claimed Shannon came to her house ,

carrying the baby in her arms. She was crying ‘My baby, my baby!’ and told  911 that the baby had hit his head while playing in the kitchen.

DSS has admitted to there being concerns about abuse and neglect of little Marcus, with reports being called in about the child’s parents being on drugs,domestic violence episodes, and the child being injured due to non-accidental trauma (child abuse) back in August 2010-and now nearly a year later the baby is dead?! This didn’t have to happen to this precious little boy. Mom is jailed at Charlotte Mecklenburg County Jail, with NO BOND, where she needs to be. More on this story  can be found: WBTV.com
